Nurses can only work after they get a license. A base called LCN or a practically licensed nurse that can only be obtained after you have passed a state-run exam known as the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses or NCLEX-PN.

For those who are targeting RN or registered nursing licenses, you must take NCLEX-RN. This exam is also taken by those working towards the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

After obtaining your license, you can immediately find work in the patient care unit at the bedside, in the operating room, emergency room, X-ray unit, intensive care unit, surgery center, pediatrics, hospital nursery, record department, laboratory or assigned to an ambulance or helicopter wing.

Just to give you an idea, a beginner-level nurse earns an average of around $ 45,000 which is far more than what other professionals in the field receive directly from college. This figure can almost double or even triple when you specialize and have gained years of experience.

You must be prepared to work flexible hours because sometimes you are asked to work on the night shift or night shift. This can take anywhere from 8 to 12 hours including holidays and weekends. Some must work 36 hours or 40 hours in 4 days then have the next 3 to 4 days as someone else will replace you.
